I'm nearly certain that a clay bar is non abrasive. The clay bar "traps" the raised material stuck on top of your smooth layer of paint and pulls it loose.
Just the way it works with one smooth pass with wax as a lubricant seems to refute the idea it works as an abrasive. It doesn't seem to gradually reduce imperfections at all. They are there and then they are not. I've never heard of anyone using a claybar to smooth out a scratch.
